Motorola v3 Razr Cell Phone Car Cords

I have two Motorola v3 Razr Car Cords (supposed to conserve and charge the battery), unopened. The price on the tag is $24.99 each. We had the Razr phones and then took them back, which left us with these two accessories still in their box.

What do I do with them? I don't know much about selling on eBay and would have no idea if these would be worth it. Anybody have any ideas?

American Journalism In The Toilet While Our Troops Are At War

I am getting really tired of our media. American media is so biased it is sickening. Most of mainstream media leans towards one political side. I saw it during the campaigning and it was outrageous. What happened to objective journalism? It's not seen very often here in America anymore. If I were in journalism, I would be very sad to see this. If I were in journalism, I'd be ashamed of myself for not presenting fair and balanced reporting! I want to see the good, bad, and the ugly...not just the ugly.

So, I decided today I was going to go looking for some reporting on the other side - - you know, the side most of America's media ignores.

Here is what I found on United World:

"There are a lot of people in the US, especially the Democrats, who downplay any success in Iraq simply because they are at odds with the Bush administration, they want to portray Iraq as a failure because they see Bush as a failure" said Hayder, who believes that there should be no correlation between politics and doing what is morally right by helping the Iraqi people. "You can hate Bush if you want, but just admit that what he did in Iraq turned out for the better. Better for Iraq, better for America and better for the world"

From: Iraq The Model:

"Iraq has started to reap the benefits of the status of forces agreement with the United States. The United Nations Security Council voted to set the ground for relieving Iraq from the restrictions of Chapter Seven of the UN Charter.

In fact, the remaining effects of previous resolutions will from now on serve only to protect Iraq’s assets from claims by other parties, not to impose anything on the people of Iraq. Sovereignty, which was lost two decades ago under Saddam Hussein’s capricious and belligerent reign, is being restored to the nation.

Domestically, the resolution is a blow dealt to all those nostalgic for the totalitarian past. Those people had exhausted their lungs screaming and rallying against a security agreement with the United States. The voice that prevailed at the end was that of Iraq’s elected parliament in choosing to open a new era of cooperation and mutual respect between Iraq and the nation that liberated it from tyranny, and continues to protect its interests as we speak.

Whereas Arab nationalists and Islamist extremists ended up with a pair of shoes, Iraqis ended up with their sovereignty, democracy, and friendship with the United States. Those hypocrites did not lift a finger to help Iraq at a time of hardship. On the contrary, they used all the means they could muster to bring democratization in Iraq and the Middle East to a halt. But despite the vicious attacks, Iraq and the United States moved hand in hand to overcome the countless obstacles and present the model of reform and democracy that is taking shape with every dispute Iraqis resolve in the parliament and every new brick they lay in a new building."

There was just a new school for girls built in Iraq with troop support. Where is the U.S. coverage of that?

These are ballots for VOTING arriving at Baghdad.

How about Saddam Hussein's crimes? Here are some details from The War Crimes of Saddam Hussein:

"...issue a memorandum decreeing that anyone whose ideas came into conflict with those of the Baath Party leadership would be subject to summary execution."

"...Hussein long viewed ethnic Kurds as a long-term threat to Iraq's survival, and the oppression and extermination of the Kurds was one of his administration's highest priorities."

"...ordering the slaughter of some 148 residents, including dozens of children."

"...Hussein had some 8,000 members of Barzani's clan, including hundreds of women and children, abducted. It is assumed that most were slaughtered; thousands have been discovered in mass graves in southern Iraq."

"...Hussein's administration called for the extermination of every living thing--human or animal--in certain regions of the Kurdish north. All told, some 182,000 people--men, women, and children--were slaughtered, many through use of chemical weapons. "

"...Hussein's regime killed as many as 2,000 suspected Kurdish rebels every day. "

"...Wartime rhetoric regarding Hussein's "rape rooms," death by torture, decisions to slaughter the children of political enemies, and the casual machine-gunning of peaceful protesters accurately reflected the day-to-day policies of Saddam Hussein's regime. Hussein was no misunderstood despotic "madman." He was a monster, a butcher, a brutal tyrant, a genocidal racist--he was all of this, and more."

Just google Saddam Hussein genocide and read for yourself.

Why did the entire world allow him to remain in power so long? What shame they should feel. How many U.S. Presidents knew and did nothing?

Why didn't the Iraqi people stand up and help themselves? Perhaps after reading all the mass butchering Saddam Hussein did above, it gives a little better understanding. I'd like to think we would've done different had we been in that place but who knows? The abused spouse stays to be abused for years...perhaps it was the same mind set - fear, shame, broken sense of self worth, lack of helpful resources.

Whether there were weapons of mass destruction or not, this man was one disgusting excuse for a human (I won't say evil because then some will turn this into a religious discussion and that's not what this is). Whether he had ties to Al Qaeda or not, he was a nasty piece of work. Was it the right time for the U.S. to do it when they did? No, they should have done it a couple decades earlier with world-wide support. Should Bin Laden have been put out of his misery first? Yeah, probably. Sniper bullet anyone? That piece of crap should be dead by now. Was this war planned right on the part of our former President and his people? No, I will say that it was not well thought out. Are we carrying a huge financial burden because of the war? Damn right we are. Is war ever nice and pretty? Hell no. Do I think we would have seen more terrorist attacks on our own soil had this not been done? Yes, I do.

Have you seen a mass grave before?

Every leader across the world should be standing up and doing something about this type of atrocity directed at other humans in countries around the world that we aren't hearing about, that doesn't make front-page news like the dress of the First Lady does (go to a celebrity news show or celebrity blog for that, not CNN or FOX). We all need some downtime for more frivolous stuff like that to give our minds a break from the real world but I don't want to see it on Headline News or the like during war time.

Why aren't more news organizations talking to the troops in the Middle East and publicizing it? Why don't they put on their news shows what our troops are telling them - about the good they are doing, about the thanks they get?

Our troops are brave and strong. Any young man or woman who enlists in the military during a time of war shows great courage. Did you know there are troops volunteering for another tour in Iraq? I hope when they return, that they are met with love and support and given the resources that heroes deserve. I can't imagine the horrors they've seen and what they will live with when they return - mentally, physically, and financially. I hope their families are being shown support while their loved one is overseas.

War isn't pretty. It is sad, horrible. I wish Saddam had been taken down with a sniper's bullet myself but I hope that as ugly as the media portrays things here in the United States, that as the troops come home and are allowed to speak out, as they write books and blogs and perhaps find some objective person in the media (good luck with that), that we will hear more of the good that they did.

I don't have great political knowledge running around my head. I am a work-at-home/stay-at-home mother with children that I want to grow up safe with the freedoms that were hard fought for. I don't pretend to know everything. I have my own opinions and I give them. I hope every media outlet in the United States who doesn't report objectively sees me flipping them the bird right now.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Has anybody seen Underworld Rise of the Lycans yet? I love the Underworld movies but we don't get out much without a babysitter nearby and I hate to ask friends, even though they've offered. So I can't wait for this to come to DVD so I can see it.

I read a lot of vampire, werewolf, and other supernatural books, with vamps being my favorite. Unfortunately, most the vampire movies end up with horrid acting or all gore. I'm not into total gore in movies (can't stand slasher type flicks). I like good acting and a storyline with a little vamp romance.

Yahoo Movies has it rated as an A- based on 1,917 ratings. Not bad. Can't wait to see it on DVD.

French Kiss The Morning

Have you ever heard this lyric, "french kiss the morning" in Bed of Roses by Bon Jovi? I love this song. It's one of my favorite songs. I never knew quite what that lyric meant though so I googled it tonight. I only found one reference to a possible meaning: wake up feeling good

Anybody have any other meaning?

They are an excellent band to see in concert! The best. We saw them a few years ago. Always is another favorite Bon Jovi song of mine. Both are on my top ten favorites. Jon Bon Jovi is one of my "freebies" (meaning I can gush over, drool over, etc. and husband doesn't care, lol). I have Jon Bon Jovi and Johnny Depp...hubby has Jessica Alba. I'm cool with that, lol.

Breastfeeding vs. Facebook

Apparently this has been news for a month but I'm just now seeing it on CNN today. Facebook is removing pictures, or banning individuals, for posting breastfeeding pictures. They showed one comment on the news from a woman comparing breastfeeding pictures to sexual pictures. Lady, take the stick out of your backside so you're not so uptight! There is a huge difference between feeding your infant and sex. If you don't realize that, perhaps you should look into improving your sex life!

I have nursing pictures; I had them professionally done. I don't have them on my PRIVATE Facebook but I don't think there would be anything wrong with it if I did (private as in only friends and family have access). My pictures were tastefully done and didn't show anything more than a mother nursing her infant. I think if the pictures are in good taste and modest (we aren't exposing both breasts for the hell of it since baby can only use one...unless you're feeding twins), then what is the problem? Send some of the more uptight individuals to a beach outside Toronto and see their eyeballs pop out of their head with the topless beaches or the bathing suit "floss" that some people call bathing suits. A nursing mother is feeding her child!

If there are individuals who are posting inappropriate pictures, then they should be removed. However, breastfeeding is beautiful and appropriate, modest pictures shouldn't be removed or individuals banned for them.

The United States, for all their freedoms, sure has a lot of constipated people! I am an American so I can say that! :)

As an aside...but similar topic...I never understood why men could walk around shirtless but women couldn't here. Are we that uptight or are our hot-blooded males that unable to control their urges if a breast is flashed? So, which is it?

Mouse Alert

We have a live trap contraption to catch some unwanted rodent guests in our home. We've used the mouse traps that kill them instantly until they smartened up and refused to go into them anymore. We used the glue trap but after seeing one mouse glued to the board last week, alive and trying to get off, I refused to use any more. It was so sad, I almost cried for the little rodent flopping around trying to save its little life. What made it worse was that my husband had already left for work so I had to dispose of it. I felt horrible. Husbands are supposed to kill spiders and rid the house of rodents. It's an unwritten rule!

So we set up a live mouse trap. The door was never shut on it though so we assumed they were avoiding it. Not. The door was broken on it. What alerted us to that was our dog trying to bite the hell out of the mouse trap. Apparently, they've been coming and going in the trap because the door was broken. The dog knew there was a mouse in there. Yeah, one less mouse in my house!

I wish we'd have gotten him before my fridge started making a really bad noise a little while ago. We heard something (the mouse) under the fridge and then an awful noise from my fridge. Stupid little rodents. If a mouse causes me to lose oodles of money to fix or replace my fridge, I am getting the glue traps back out!

Find A Great Sale

Housebreaking Woes About Over?

No, this time I am not talking about my three year old daughter. I am talking about our one year old Sheltie/Beagle mix, Trixie.

Trixie is a cute little dog, very curious and great with our kids. She is kennel trained, but we've had a hard time with the actual housebreaking outside of the kennel. My living room area rug was a favorite spot of hers, much to my dismay.

We realized a couple things recently:

She is very excitable when she is with the kids so when we would take her out of her kennel, we'd put her outside before giving her access to the main living area. We thought that would be enough. It wasn't because she was still piddling a short time after she got her access.

So, we started taking her back out AGAIN about five minutes after we gave her rein of the living area. We figured maybe the excitement got her bladder moving. It helped quite a bit. Made a big difference, but not quite enough.

So what did we finally do? We rolled up my area rug and threw it in the garage a week ago. We took her "smell" of all her previous piddles out of the house (that no amount of cleaner would ever fully rid the carpet of). She's only had one accident since.

I have my fingers crossed this is it. The poor little girl needed her humans to figure it out.

Better Daily Choices for Moms

I decided this week to make a choice every day to think about my own health...something a lot of people don't do (especially moms who are so busy taking care of others they put themselves at the bottom of the neverending "to do" list that they never get to). So far, I've been making better food choices by adding veggies to my day. I am also taking a multi-vitamin and drinking Acai juice. Not bad for this being my third day. I've even started a blog so that it's a daily reminder to think of my own health regularly.

If I want to lose weight though, I am going to have to exercise or hit the weight loss supplements. Healthy living isn't all about foods though. It's also about exercising your body and your mind (keep those brain cells!) and relieving excessive stress that triggers cortisol which triggers fat cell build-up around the middle. Hmmm...exactly where I have it. Go figure.

All moms need to do this!

Different Diaper Rash Treatment

I just heard of a new diaper rash treatment from our pediatrician that he says the local Children's Hospital uses for babies who get diaper rash after having diarrhea. They combine equal parts Aquaphor (healing ointment) and Maalox (yes, Maalox), mix well and apply. Then store the rest in the fridge and take out to apply until rash is gone. Apparently the Maalox neutralizes the stomach acid in the diarrhea on the skin.

I looked it up online and apparently a lot of mothers knew about it already. I have never heard of this before and we are on our sixth child between us! I wish I'd heard about this a few kids ago.

Share this with other moms you know. Perhaps I'm not the only mother who has not heard of this yet.

My New Health Blog

I am kicking around the idea of starting another blog about trying to get healthy. I don't eat right (I don't eat a lot...just the wrong foods at the wrong time and not enough of the right foods), I hate exercise, and I have thyroid disease which really messes with my metabolism. As you can see, I have an uphill battle (an uphill battle would exercise my derriere though wouldn't it?). I am hoping that writing about this will keep me going because I tend to lose willpower after a few days...ok, maybe a few hours.

For instance, the other day I went to reach for a Slim-Fast bar. Then I realized I'd rather eat than chew on a bar that tastes like cardboard. My husband laughed at me. He eats protein bars every day so this is nothing to him. It's a lot to me. If I don't enjoy the taste, I won't eat it. Period.

I have a rebound trampoline that I could use. I've had it a year and barely used it. It's covered wtih dust in my basement right now. We used to have a treadmill but we gave it to my father-in-law to use. I haven't looked into treadmills lately but I probably should. I have plenty of exercise DVD's and videos. That might help if I'd dust those off.

What I would LOVE is to take a belly dancing class. I would get exercise while learning a fun (sensual) dance that would have other uses. *wink wink*

Anyhow, back to the original topic...I am trying to get this new blog set up so it will be what I want it to be. I'll post a link here when I have it done.

FANTASTIC Cheese Dip Recipe

My sister made this and brought it for New Year's and it was SOOOOO good. We spread it on little slices of bread (hmmm...will have to find out what kind of bread it was from my sister...it was really good) but you could use crackers or whatever you wanted too. Thought I'd share the recipe with everybody:

Cheese Dip/Spread

  • (2) 8 oz. Cream Cheese
  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 12 oz. Shredded Swiss Cheese
  • 4-5 Green onions chopped
  • Hormel Real Bacon pieces

Combine all ingredients except bacon bits. When well blended, put in 10" pie pan and sprinkle bacon bits on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

My sister splits the recipe into two smaller dishes, and freezes one for a later time. All you have to do then is thaw and bake.

This is great to have in the freezer for unexpected guests who stop by.

Twilight Birthday Party Planning Rolling Along

My daughter's 12th Twilight birthday party is in the active planning stages. I wasn't sure if we'd be able to do it because nobody does a "Twilight" cake and the cake decorators will not take a Twilight picture and make it into an edible photo cake the way they do because of copyright issues. So, this is what I have planned so far:

  • I am having a 1/2 sheet cake done with white icing, red borders, and red/white and black flowers. I was going to do a red velvet cake to really get into it but some kids don't like that so I went with a regular yellow cake. I picked up a chess set with white pieces so I can take the chess piece (like on the cover of Breaking Dawn) and put that on the cake. I picked up red satin ribbon (like on Eclipse's book cover) so I can put a piece of that on the cake. I looked for a single red/white flower like on New Moon, but haven't found one yet. The cake will have red, white & black flowers so that's not a huge deal to find so if I don't, no big deal. Then there is the apple for the Twilight cover - I am either going to look for a new one from the craft store (when the snow storm is over) or dig out the red apple christmas ornament I have and use that. That takes care of the cake.

  • I have red, white, and black decorations (streamers, plates, plastic silverware, table cover). Oh shoot, I just realized I forgot the paper cups. Darnit. Better add that to my shopping list before Saturday.

  • I bought regular "Happy Birthday" confetti for the table but I am going to create a sheet of various, small Twilight pictures and cut those out and throw that in with the regular confetti.

  • For games, I bought different card games for the girls to play because I'm sure they'll be up most of the night. I also bought cool blank CD's and I am going to make each kid a CD for their birthday bag (along with the High School musical singing pen, Hanna Montana book covers and candy). I also bought supplies for the girls to make their own bookmarks (the party is based on books after all). There will also be karaoke.

  • My daughter also wants to do a "red" tasting contest - finding different red foods/candy, blindfolding the person, and having them taste and guess what the red food is.

I'm sure they'll be up half, or more, of the night watching DVD's, listening to music, playing games, and gorging on junk food.

So far, so good. I'll have to see what else we come up with between now and Saturday.

Great Vacation Deals Now

I was watching a morning news show this past weekend and they had some awesome travel deals advertised. I couldn't believe the low costs for vacations right now - air fare, cruises, hotels. It made me start thinking about wanting a family vacation this year. We haven't had a family vacation in a few years; it's not been affordable.

I prefer the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina myself.

Things You Should Think About in January

It's January. That means it's time to renew the dog licenses before the end of the month for us. Don't forget to do it for your dogs too. I missed the deadline date last year and ended up paying $72 instead of $36 for them. That was just stupid of me.

What else should you do this month to get the New Year off to a safe and healthy start?

  • Check your smoke detector batteries; change them if it's been awhile.
  • Check your carbon monoxide detector batteries; change them if needed.
  • Do you have everything organized that you are going to need for your taxes?
  • Any birthdays this month you should remember? Get cards for them now, sign them and get the envelopes addressed and stamped so all you have to do is remember to mail them in time!
  • Take inventory of your family's health. Have your kids had their well-checks within the past year or do they need to be scheduled? What about you? I'm sure there are appointments you've been putting off for yourself (I know I'm guilty of this too). There are probably appointments your spouse has been putting off too, especially if your spouse is like my husband and putting off some of the more "embarrassing" first-time appointments he should be taking care of after 40. Schedule those dental and eye appointments while you're thinking about it.
  • Clean out your medicine cabinet. Throw out anything that has expired and replace things that are low or out (band-aids, fever medicine, cold medicine, etc.). How are your prescription meds? Take care of refills or ask your doctor for a new prescription if you need them.
  • How are your kids doing in school mid-way through the year? If they need extra homework help, look into the school's tutoring program. Parent-teacher conferences should be within a month. If your child is having problems in school, start thinking about questions and resolutions to helping your child when you talk to the teacher(s) at conferences. If they are having severe problems, don't wait a month to talk to them. Talk to them now!

That's about all I can think of at the moment.

Wanting Homegrown Fruit

I love fruit (vegetables...not so much). We have an acre of property that I would like to plant a couple of fruit trees on so I know how they are grown before my family eats them.

I'd love to have a couple of Plum trees in my backyard but I know my kids would like peach trees. They love peaches. They're good fruit eaters (but vegetables...not so much).

I don't know anything about growing trees but I do ok with other plantings outside so maybe I could grow a few fruit trees. Indoors, that's another story - I kill all indoor plants. I'm not sure how it happens but it does.

What Did I Start...Potty Training

Well, "The Pee Pee Dance" is working (previous post). My youngest is finally using the bathroom (with a few accidents but is doing great)! She insists on the dance after every trip to the toilet which isn't a problem. It's working and making her want to toilet train to act silly with mommy (and everybody else since now she has the entire family doing it with her). The problem is now she wants a "poopy dance" too. I'd personally rather she just do her thing and not have to dance to that one.

The Pee Pee Dance

My youngest is 3-1/2 years old and not potty trained. She's stubborn. She is getting diaper rashes more often now. It's seriously time for her to give up the pull-ups (at least during the day).

We tried waiting. We tried sticker charts. We tried waiting again. We tried getting her a little potty for herself. We tried getting her a cushion seat for the toilet when the little potty wasn't used at all. We tried waiting again. We went through the peeing on my floor when we'd put her in just underwear - repeatedly. She even got my couch a few times.

Seriously, I am so OVER potty-training. She's the last child, the baby of the family. She wants to stay the baby for as long as possible it seems like.

I am desperate to encourage her to think this is a good thing so this is what I did today every time I took her into the bathroom:

Guess what? She hasn't had one accident yet. Go figure. I guess she just wanted to see mom make a fool of herself.

The Travolta's and the Media

I wasn't going to post about the Travolta's because it's being posted everywhere and it's not like I could add anything that everybody doesn't already know about every parent's worst fear. I know it's been mine since the birth of my first child almost 12 years ago.

However, the media is irritating me. Too much (in my opinion) of the media's reporting is about "John Travolta's son" and then Kelly is mentioned as an afterthought. Is this because John Travolta is the more famous of the two celebrity parents? Don't misunderstand, I've loved John since Grease and now my kids do too. However, Jett had a mother too and from all I have read and family pictures floating around the Internet, she adored him. They both seemed to be parents who truly loved and enjoyed their children. As a mother, I can't imagine the horror and loss she must be feeling over losing her oldest child. Both parents lost their child; not just the more famous one.

My heart goes out to them both. I know everybody keeps offering them condolences, most of which they'll never see (mine included). So I offer mine too...I guess just to make myself feel better in some way but I decided I had to post about the media irritating me again (no surprise there...they generally do). Kelly is a mother; not an afterthought.

Sell Insurance?

My husband and I are still talking about whether I should go on to get my state license for health, accident, and life insurance. I'm just so undecided. I have about 3-4 more months to decide before my certificates become void. The upside is that I could do it from home. I just don't know.

With the economy the way it is, things like life insurance seems like a luxury rather than a necessity (unlike home insurance would be that all homeowners are required to have with a mortgage) though my possible future boss says it is just the opposite. With things so rough right now, people are planning and buying life insurance now more than ever.

What to do, what to do eh? I'm so indecisive. Must be the Libra in me.
