Need a Flute

Anybody have any suggestions on where to get a good flute (for a senior first chair) that won't cost an arm and a leg but will only be used about six months? My senior daughter's flute is done. No matter how many times we take it to the band shop, it never comes out working right. I think too many years of rain soaked games (in marching band) has totaled it.  With concert band starting in a few weeks, my daughter is going to need a new flute if she wants that first chair and the solo again.

I dread the purchase though. It's for only six months use! That's a lot of money for six months. I guess we have another daughter who plays flute and could use it but her current flute already works just fine!

I'll look on ebay but you  never know what you're going to get there (and their fees are OUTRAGEOUS anymore). I'll check out Musician's Friend too. We've bought a lot of stuff from them over the years and I trust their merchandise. I just hate to buy a brand new flute for only six months use. If you're interested in Musician's Friend, check them out.  Learn more about us at MusiciansFriend.com.

Maybe we'll just rent one for the six months and be done with it. We don't need another flute in the house once my senior daughter graduates. My middle daughter has her flute, my son plays drums, and our youngest daughter has decided to start drums next year. No more flutes necessary. Ugh.

Son beats out senior on snare

Marching band season has started and my sophomore son is lead snare. Yeah for him!! I don't think the senior in percussion liked that too much but he is better than every other one in his group. The senior quit band because he wasn't snare or on the quads.

I think it'd be cool if our marching band had some guitars out there, set up wireless, of course. I've heard they're going to get some keyboards or something but I'd like to see a guitar. Then we can really do "Welcome to the Jungle" the right way. There are a lot of cool wireless systems to choose from but our school would never spend the money on that kind of set up.

Emergency Funds: Do you have one?

We are starting an emergency fund (yes, we FINALLY have one of those).

We really need to get our emergency fund built up. I don't like what's going on in the world right now and I'd feel better if we had a safety net. I want to build that up a little faster than we have been but I don't want to give up EVERYTHING to do it. I don't want to pinch every penny...just enough to make me feel a little better.

Do you have an emergency fund?

Jabawockeez Mix

My husband mixed the music for my daughter's varsity cheer squad and they did a Jabawockeez mask dance for it last night. It was neat. The music was better than any music the high school has had before. Usually, it's bad but when my husband does it, it sounds great over the sound system and the dance turned out cute.

Violin Cases vs The Cat (Cat Won)

I pulled my daughter's violin case out of her closet to find the stray cat we found (which had babies...which is a whole other story) wet all over it. What? Ew.

She doesn't play that violin anymore but I still have to keep it protected. I've been looking at violin cases at musicians friend to see what I can get to store this pretty, little violin in. I will find another one and put this up for our youngest daughter to play (or maybe a future grandchild).  I don't want to sell it even though it isn't played anymore.

So that stray cat won that round.  The little bugger.  We did end up getting her fixed and finding her a new home where she can't make babies anymore but the damage left behind...ugh.

Tools for Creating Music

My husband just told me that his son signed one of his songs with somebody (electronica techno music...not a singing type song).  I don't know the details or even if it is for real or he was being scammed but he does love creating and recording. Sounds like he is having fun whatever he is doing.

Willow Smith Releases First Song - Whip My Hair

If you don't know who I'm talking about, Willow Smith is the daughter of Will Smith (everybody knows who Will Smith is) and Jada Pinkett Smith.  Willow just released her first song under Jay-Z's recording label.  It's called "whip my hair" and I think the younger crowd will like it.  The "whip my hair" over and over again sounds like chipmunks to me but I'm not ten years old.

I think she's nine years old.  With Will and Jada as parents, both Willow and Jaden Smith are going to be names in the business in the coming years.  I loved Jaden in Karate Kid.  His interviews to promote the movie were really cute too.

3rd Grader Talent Show Auditions Next Week

My 3rd grader has a talent show audition next week. She is going to sing The Climb by Miley Cyrus.  The courage it takes to get up on stage and sing in front of the school kids, teachers, and parents is just beyond me.  I could never do it.

My husband seems to think that he'll get me up on stage for mic nights at some local places to play guitar but I know it'll never happen.  Besides looking up lipozene reviews for weight loss help since there's more of me than I like to think about getting on stage, I am not and have never been one to get up on stage to have the attention centered on me playing or singing like that. Now out on a dance floor, that's another story.  I'll leave the stage for my husband and kids.

Halfway Thru 2009, Who Has Started Christmas Shopping?

Yes, that's right, I brought up the "C" for Christmas word and it's not quite summer yet. I know all you early shoppers are out there somewhere. Every year, I say I am going to get my shopping done early. This year, I really need to try. In this economy, we just can't afford the huge bill to hit at once at the end of the year. I need to spread it out throughout the year.
For my little singing diva, I found a Rock Star doll by Only Hearts Club. Being dressed in pink is a bonus because she's really girly. My eight-year-old daughter just performed in her school's talent show singing Love Story by Taylor Swift. If she is anything like her rock 'n roll dad, she'll be belting out rock songs like Lita Ford by the time she's a teenager. She'll like the Rock Star doll for Christmas.

Video Singing Love Story by Taylor Swift

I'm double posting this because I'm biased and happen to think my kid is adorable (they all are), lol.

This is my second grade daughter singing for the first time in front of other people for her school's talent show audition. She sang Love Story by Taylor Swift. She was very nervous. I cried because I'm such a sap.

She made it!! She'll be in the talent show.

Neil Sedaka has another top selling CD

...and it's probably not what you think.

He made a CD for children and it's a top seller. With songs like "Waking Up Is Hard To Do, Where the Toys Are, Dinosaur Pet, Lunch Will Keep Us Together" and more, young kids will love it.

DJ Ashba

DJ ASHBA

This is DJ Ashba. A friend just told me about him today and I'm getting hooked. Listen to his music on his myspace page or check out his web site. I love his music (and his eyes). The eyes get me every time.

I've linked you up to both his myspace and his web site above. Check out his music and also that of a band he was in - SIXX: A.M. You can see both on YouTube too. Great music and DJ Ashba is fantastic on the guitar. Talented! It's kind of like foreplay watching him play (I have a thing for guitar players...I better since my husband is one).

French Kiss The Morning

Have you ever heard this lyric, "french kiss the morning" in Bed of Roses by Bon Jovi? I love this song. It's one of my favorite songs. I never knew quite what that lyric meant though so I googled it tonight. I only found one reference to a possible meaning: wake up feeling good

Anybody have any other meaning?

They are an excellent band to see in concert! The best. We saw them a few years ago. Always is another favorite Bon Jovi song of mine. Both are on my top ten favorites. Jon Bon Jovi is one of my "freebies" (meaning I can gush over, drool over, etc. and husband doesn't care, lol). I have Jon Bon Jovi and Johnny Depp...hubby has Jessica Alba. I'm cool with that, lol.

Writing Music

I am surrounded by music writers. My husband is always writing music. In fact, he's on the computer writing some techno stuff right now. My kids write too. My six year old especially loves writing lyrics. She also loves to sing. The kids are putting a show on for us tomorrow. It's on "the schedule" already, lol.

My husband wrote me a really nice song a long time ago. It's my favorite but I have to have somebody transfer it from a tape cassette (I told you it was a long time ago) over to a CD so I can listen to it. He said he'd just re-record it for me but I want the original. It means a lot to me.

Bonedaddy/Daddy Voodoo

These are some pictures I took of when my husband had a band with a friend of his a couple of years ago. I just dug them out of storage (finally) and he's just too cute so I thought I'd post a few. Listen to some of their music on myspace!
