It's been a couple weeks since I've posted here. I got busy with the kids and went on a mini-vacation, just me and the kids. It was four against one for a four hour drive each way and they didn't do too bad. We drove to a family reunion and saw family we hadn't seen in forever. Got a little baby fix in and sang happy birthday to several little ones. I probably should've looked for baby gifts at redenvelope before we went but it was a last minute decision (seriously, we decided two hours before we left). I am more than happy to buy baby gifts for other people's kids rather than have more babies myself. That time has come (with four children) and is now gone (with me heading towards 40).
Other than the sunburn that blistered on my back, it was a good time. Maybe next time hubby will be able to come with us and make it even better. I missed him, but I am glad I went.
We have an upcoming vacation planned and some unexpected (aggravating) news to bring our joy over our vacation down a few notches. Part of it is going to be spent with somebody who hated me for years. Sounds like fun right? Instead of relaxing and enjoying a few days with family, I'm going to be stressed while spending a few days with family. I figure by the time the vacation is over with, I'll need deep wrinkle cream (or xanax).
To cancel the vacation would disappoint my husband's parents (which I don't want to do) and based on hubby's "silent, moodiness" the last couple of days, he doesn't want to cancel even though he's not thrilled at the news either. We'd reschedule the vacation, which was hubby's first choice, but I need to see my uncle on the first half of our vacation because it'll probably be my last chance (he's had cancer the last few years) so it's either go then because we can't afford two different trips. Not to cancel the part of the trip with the difficult family member will disappoint me and drain our bank account to pay for an unhappy vacation (and probably end up with hubby and I fighting during vacation over his sister). Oh decisions, decisions... Here I thought vacations were supposed to be fun!!
Darned if I do and darned if I don't. If I do, I need to figure out how not to let this person totally ruin the vacation and stress me out.
I hope everybody had a good weekend. Ours was great. We went away on vacation with our kids to visit family. We all had a great time. I even had a makeover!
Now that I've lost 19 pounds, it felt good to squeeze into smaller pants and look good. Now to get rid of the remaining 13 pounds and I'll be good to go. I should look into treadmills for indoor exercise or some other type of exercise equipment. Can I read a book and use a treadmill at the same time? Maybe I should be looking at an exercise bike instead. Otherwise, I'd probably be reading the latest bestseller and go flying off the back of the treadmill and land on my backside. While my kids would think that was funny, I don't bounce as well as I used to!
We're planning a trip to hit the road for a vacation. We'll be on the road with four kids for hours. I dread being cramped up that long in a car but I will buy car sickness medication for the kids so nobody will be sick (and hopefully they'll sleep through part of the trip).
Maybe if I had a luxury car that had seats that felt more like a massage than a ride that will send me looking for the best hemorrhoids treatment instead, it wouldn't be so bad. Drive in style! Then again, with my husband's driving, I probably wouldn't even notice a luxury massage because I'm too busy watching his driving every step of the way. I call him an ADHD driver...something catches his attention and he's looking at that instead of the road - drives me crazy!
Our dogs will go to the kennel. I'm going to miss my puppy. It will be sad leaving her, especially knowing that she is going to be quivering the way her breed does when they get nervous, but she'd be a huge handful to take - more of a handful than the kids. She'll have her doggy siblings with her so I'm sure she'll be adjust and be happy to see us when we get home.
My husband has threatened to grow a Brad Pitt beard. Have you seen that long, messy-looking, awful beard he's been sporting lately? No way, no how. I told him I'd shave him while he slept if he tried. So, he gave his growing beard a good trim. Thankfully!
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt seem to be staying out of the spotlight lately. I've seen some trash talk in the rags a little bit ago. I never believe everything those things say but sometimes, they carry a little bit of truth and a lot of fluff. Who knows. Maybe they're just laying low in their New Orleans home (no hotel new orleans for them), or one of their other homes, so fluff is being made up about them. Other than seeing that awful beard Brad has been growing, it's been kind of quiet.
This economy is just burying us financially. If it goes on any longer, we're not going to be able to hang on. We're hanging by our nails right now.
My four-year-old asked me today when we could go to Disneyland like her friend did (we've never been there). I just thought to myself how I'm hoping we'll be able to hang onto our house through the next month though I didn't tell her that obviously.
I sure wish I was born into a family where I grew up feeling entitled and privileged without a worry about money. Why couldn't I be a trust fund baby?
There are certainly people worse off than us so I can quit griping now. The people in Haiti have lost so much in the earthquake and the total devastation isn't even known yet. It's unbelieveable.
As my husband and I got into our frozen car two mornings ago to run errands, our breath puffing out in front of our faces, we talked about how great it would be to become snowbirds and just run off every winter to the deep south, like panama city beach FL. We aren't the right age yet to be snowbirds but I'm willing to die my hair silver and pretend. This cold is for the birds with wind chill hovering around zero. Most birds fly south. That's where I'd like to be this time of year. One of these holidays, we should plan a holiday vacation for the kids to Florida. I hear it is 80 degrees there right now from a friend. Wish I was there!
Read more...BRRR! Why does it feel SO cold? I usually love Autumn but it seems like it's been colder than usual (shouldn't be a surprise because the summer was definitely cooler than usual too). Winter depresses me so this cold is for the birds! It can take a hike!
We are adding to our vacation wish list. Our destination additions are Salem, Massachusetts and Asheville, North Carolina. Not that we have a vacation planned (who can afford it right now), but it's nice to have something to look forward to anyway.
Hopefully after winter graces us with its presence and then gets the heck out of here, we'll have family visiting again. My sister and sister-in-law plan to travel in their RV so hopefully they make a stop near us on their travels for a visit. Traveling by RV seems like it'd be fun (much better than putting 4 - 6 kids in an automobile and traveling). All we'd have to do is ensure our rv insurance is updated, stock up on food, and hit the road!
I have family in Houston, Texas and Austin, Texas and have been to both. It's nice to have family to stay with on vacation. As a kid, we went to the beach outside Houston in Galveston, Texas then went to a rodeo when we were visiting family in Austin.
If we wanted to check out the Dallas city life, we'd have to look for Dallas Texas hotels to stay in since there's no family to mooch beds off of.
Texas was great but the red ants we had to navigate around and the poisonous snake in the pond spooking the horses were more than enough for me. I really loved visiting but some of the species that live there can do so without me residing there as well.
I was watching a morning news show this past weekend and they had some awesome travel deals advertised. I couldn't believe the low costs for vacations right now - air fare, cruises, hotels. It made me start thinking about wanting a family vacation this year. We haven't had a family vacation in a few years; it's not been affordable.
I prefer the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina myself.
I am wishing for the Smoky Mountains. We haven't been back in a few years and I miss them (even if I have to take a Dramamine to drive through them, I still love them...odd huh?). Next time we go, I think I need to get a travel guide and drive through Tennessee to the other side and actually vacation on the North Carolina side. We visited that side briefly (went to the Cherokee Reservation) but I'd actually like to vacation there for several days.
There are only so many time you can go to Gatlinburg, TN. I've been there several times already and I don't want to do the "tourist" route again. I want to find an out of the way spot and enjoy nature and family. That's the best vacation to me.
