Insanity Exercise

Look what I started today:

I started with the Fit Test today (and found out I am NOT very fit) and tomorrow I work on plyometric cardio.  It is 60 days of Insanity with Shaun T and I can't wait to see what I can do with my body over the next 60 days.

My Life Today

It's been a whole year since I posted here. That is so bad of me.

Life has been busy. Let's see what we've been up to the past year...

We had our first family vacation in several years with our four kids.  We went to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and had a good time with the kids.

We didn't see our stepkids.  Apparently, they're too busy though  my stepson does keep in regular email contact with his dad so that's good. My stepdaughter doesn't have much contact with dad unless she is mad about something or asking for something.  Four months and the legal relationship with the ex ends (yes, I have a countdown).

We have had some major issues with a boyfriend of my daughter's and had to involve the police. Hopefully, that issue is done with (please, be done).

We have been to countless football and basketball games supporting the kids in band and cheer (and really enjoying the high school sports surprisingly since I am so NOT a sports person).

We are gearing up for our youngest now to start softball for the first time.  My middle daughter is going out for middle school cheer.  My son will be entering high school after this school year is over so will experience high school soccer and band camp for the first time as a teenager.  My oldest tried out for flags instead of playing her flute so she'll do that for football season and has cheer tryouts this week for next year's basketball season already.

That's about it.  I play chauffeur, cook and maid more than anything.  They're growing up so fast!!

I started exercising to Hip Hop Abs by Beachbody last week. It is a really great program if you enjoy the hip hop type moves like I do.  It's easy enough for beginners and fun.  After I get my groove back, I start Beachbody's Insanity program.  Fun times ahead!

Downside of 30 and Getting Tired

Where do four-year-olds get all that energy?  My daughter ran me around the yard a few times yesterday and I was tired!  I need to build some endurance if I am going to keep up with her this summer (and always keep my inhaler on hand).

I was looking at an elliptical machine, wishing we had room to have some good equipment in the house (that doesn't just collect dust). Our house is too small though.  We walked by some in the store and my daughter said, "Mommy, there is your exercise stuff."  Yeah, in my dreams.

I Bit the Bullet Today...

I bought a swimsuit. Not that I'm in any shape to be wearing one but my four-year-old won't get into the pool unless somebody is holding her so a mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do. I hope people don't start yelling for eye bleach when they see me!

I should've kept up the exercising I started in April. Looking at myself in those three-way mirrors in the changing rooms sure gave me more views than I needed! It brought right to the forefront (in THREE WAY view) how much I really need to exercise.

I'm looking at the Kettlebell for exercise. They come in different weights and I'd personally rather use those than barbells. At this point, running around my yard would be better than what I do now.

My New Health Blog

I am kicking around the idea of starting another blog about trying to get healthy. I don't eat right (I don't eat a lot...just the wrong foods at the wrong time and not enough of the right foods), I hate exercise, and I have thyroid disease which really messes with my metabolism. As you can see, I have an uphill battle (an uphill battle would exercise my derriere though wouldn't it?). I am hoping that writing about this will keep me going because I tend to lose willpower after a few days...ok, maybe a few hours.

For instance, the other day I went to reach for a Slim-Fast bar. Then I realized I'd rather eat than chew on a bar that tastes like cardboard. My husband laughed at me. He eats protein bars every day so this is nothing to him. It's a lot to me. If I don't enjoy the taste, I won't eat it. Period.

I have a rebound trampoline that I could use. I've had it a year and barely used it. It's covered wtih dust in my basement right now. We used to have a treadmill but we gave it to my father-in-law to use. I haven't looked into treadmills lately but I probably should. I have plenty of exercise DVD's and videos. That might help if I'd dust those off.

What I would LOVE is to take a belly dancing class. I would get exercise while learning a fun (sensual) dance that would have other uses. *wink wink*

Anyhow, back to the original topic...I am trying to get this new blog set up so it will be what I want it to be. I'll post a link here when I have it done.

Muscle Growth Products

I remember when I was a skinny little kid, my older but very skinny brother started working out to bulk up I guess. I remember protein powder being around back then. Guess he didn't like being skinny bones like the rest of us. I can only wish for the days when I was skinny now.

Today, there is a whole slew of products to help you gain or lose weight, gain muscle, etc. and I came across different types of muscle growth products. Guess this would be like legal steroids for body builders. My best friend since high school recently started body building but I haven't asked her what regimen she uses to muscle up her feminine frame. I'll have to ask her next time I talk to her.

I am not looking to bulk up. I wish there was a product that would zone in on all the extra baby fat and zap it away. Extra tummy? Zap! Extra thigh? Zap! Extra booty in the back? Oh wait, hubby likes that...don't zap! Extra in the chest? Hey, leave those too!

Exercise Update

Well, I started exercising again. The last couple of days has seen me playing countless volleyball games. I have the sore forearm to prove it. Ouch! We play several games a day with all of the kids. Sometimes, it is girls against boys. Sometimes, it is hubby and me against five of the kids (we still win though they have fun making fun of the "old people").

Here is to hoping this jump starts the weight loss...AGAIN. I was doing good and then it kind of petered out with the daily rain almost everyday over the last few weeks.

Come on weight, go away.

Phentermine Diet Pill Review

As I've said many times, I am on a mission to lose weight. Unfortunately, I got off track the last few weeks with that (ok, I got a little lazy).

I came across this diet pill review for Phentermine. It was approved by the FDA in 1959 so it's been around for a long time. When combined with diet and exercise, there is supposed to be 10-15% more weight loss than over a placebo. You take it once a day for 3-4 weeks. You can get Phentermine without a prescription so it is convenient as well.

Exercise Update

I have been so lax the last few weeks on my exercising that I haven't lost anymore weight. With it raining six out of seven days a week for the last few weeks, my volleyball time has been cut down to nothing. Since I hate to exercise, it has to be something I enjoy doing (volleyball) or else I won't do it. I'm stubborn that way. I know many people who utilize the diet pill approach, but I am not there yet for myself. Yet.

Weight Loss

Well, I am still on track for increasing my activity level to lose some weight. I do not have an "exercise regimen" specifically. I've never stuck to those before so I decided to try something different.

What I decided to do was just increase my activity level in general. That means going outside to play kickball or volleyball with the kids at least every other day and walking with the remaining child not in school yet during the day around the neighborhood. We played volleyball a couple of times this weekend and I just finished my morning walk for today.

Now, the activity level isn't so huge that it is burning up tons of calories each time, however, I am hoping to jump start my thyroid disease challenged metabolism...rev it up a bit. I used to have fantastic metabolism until my thyroid decided to try to annihilate itself.

Here's to this next week of keeping the activity level up.

Exercise

My husband bikes about 60 miles a week. Not because he has to (he does have a car though with the gas prices the way they are, biking is looking better and better); he does it because he loves it. It is how he keeps in shape. These 60 miles, he recently informed me, is cutting back from his usual. His usual was double that per week. *twirls and faint*

OK, I picked myself back up off the floor and realized I don't have one percent of the willpower he does. At this point, I don't know if I could go one mile without having an asthma attack (or heart attack). That's pretty bad. I am six years younger than he is and physically, he is probably 20 years younger than me. That's really bad (for me health-wise).

What is it about some people that they can do this and enjoy it? Where do they find the willpower and ambition? I need some. Anybody have any they want to give away?

Being Lazy Is Hard

This past weekend was a good weekend. The weather was fantastic. Of course, the first few days of this kind of comfortable, sunny weather after a winter of snow, ice, and wind is always a great site to see. On Saturday, I kicked the soccer balls around with the kids outside (until one huge kick gave way to pain in my thigh, lol). On Sunday, we spent a couple hours at the horse stables watching my oldest have a lesson after her horse club meeting (they learned to braid manes). I kept crouching underneath the arena fence going in and out instead of using the gate. Again, pain through the thighs. Are you seeing a pattern here? I think I am out of shape!

Spring seems to make people think more about getting into shape, firming up some muscles and maybe dropping a few pounds. I should do all three but willpower is always an issue for me. I don't plan on getting into any bikinis this summer (I've had four kids; I think the days of bikinis are behind me) but it'd be nice to feel good in clothes this summer.

I'm not sure where some people find their willpower to keep going. I do it for a few days and then that's it. How do people do it?

I guess if I made it a point to run around kicking soccer balls everyday, it'd help. Maybe go for a walk with the baby after my other kids get on the bus. Being lazy certainly is difficult, lol. It would probably be easier if I spent a little time exercising and watching what I ate better rather than stewing over it instead. I think I waste more time thinking about it than it would to do it!

Finding Willpower, Finding Time

OK. I want to get into shape. Lose some lbs. in some places, some more than others, lol. Firm up some places. Again, some more than others. My problem? Well, there's a few of them.

First, I have thyroid disease - Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Hypothyroidism. Besides having several lovely nodules on my thyroid and the fear of cancer one day, it has slowed my metabolism down to about nothing. So, the days of eating what I want, when I want are over for me.

Second, I have asthma. A few minutes of exercise means puffing away at my rescue inhaler. I have my asthma under control for the most part the rest of the time, but exercise induced asthma gets me everytime.

Third, I have four young children. Where do I find the time to squeeze in exercise in between meal preparation, cleaning, homework, kids' activities, errands, husband activities, etc. etc. etc. Funny how the reason for the extra weight (baby weight that won't leave) is also part of the reason why I don't have time to get rid of it, lol.

Fourth, I have no willpower. Nada. Zilch. I never had to watch my weight before. I was always a size 2/4 no matter how many times I went thru the drive-thru at McDonalds (and believe me, that was OFTEN back when I was single). Yes, I was one of those snotty witches that could eat what I wanted, when I wanted, and never gain an ounce. So, having to figure out how to watch it now is difficult for me - difficult for me to think about and difficult for me to maintain thinking about.

Finally, I can't use "help" in the form of weight loss pills, shakes, etc. Medications tend to react badly with my thyroid meds (as in heart-racing nausea bad reaction feeling like I am going to die scenario). I have no clue how natural remedies would interact with my thyroid meds either so those are out. I can't even pop a cold pill when I get a cold.

I don't eat badly. I mean, there are times that I do. When Bryan brings me home chocolate, which he thoughtfully does because he knows how much I love it, how could I not eat some (he also thoughtfully eats it too, sometimes before I can get to it)? (Did I say he bought it for me? LOL) When I have my mother-in-law's company potatoes in front of me, that is a huge guarantee that I am going to eat too much but that's only a few times a year. Most of the time, I don't have time to eat properly, which is part of my problem. Not eating enough frequently enough slows my metabolism down. Guess I'm screwed everyway I go huh?

Fifth, everytime I try to exercise, a two-year old comes running to hang onto my leg. Mom can't have time to herself according to my two-year-old, lol. That is the way it is with everything though - mom gets on the computer, toddler wants me; mom answers the phone, toddler wants me.

That leaves me with exercise. Boring, asthma-inducing, hateful, muscle aching exercise. Something else about me - I hate to sweat. Hate it. Unless it is sweat induced by a lot of loving, I have NO interest in sweating ever. I hate sweating myself and find nothing sexy about a sweaty man. It stinks!

I took the first step today towards finding some willpower. I did it. I exercised today. I sweated. I increased my heart rate. Then after 14 minutes, I had to break for my inhaler. I did it though. My first step towards losing some lbs. and finding my waistline. It will make me happier about myself, thus better for my family. It will be healthier for me and that's not just better for me but better for my kids. I want to be around to see my grandkids. I am six years younger than my husband and he's in better shape than me. Can't have that! I have to catch up to the old man!

I am hoping this blog will give me some incentive to keep going. If I see it here, it will be a reminder that I have to haul my Turbo Jam DVD out and work my booty off more often and literally. Right? That's my hope anyway.
