The Vampire Diaries Coming to the CW

Did you hear about the new vampire show that is coming to the CW on September 10th? It's called The Vampire Diaries and it is based on the book series by L. J. Smith.

Don't get confused about the other vampire series on HBO called True Blood. That is for mature viewing, which disappointed my twelve-year-old.

I don't know yet how they are rating The Vampire Diaries so I'm not yet sure if my 12-year-old, who wants to watch it, will be able to but she's excited about it and hopeful.

I'm just thankful not to have another medical drama on television again. I guess wardrobe changes are easy given they usually wear medical scrubs but given the popularity of vampires right now, thanks to the Twilight series, it'll be nice to have something else to choose from on television. I just hope they don't overdo it with the vampire stuff.

Vampire Hunters...as dads?

I have decided to start another blog for the bookworm nerd in me. I read a lot and thought a blog on book reviews would be fun.

I am reading Dark Celebration by Christine Feehan (which is only one in a long line for this particular Dark Hunter series). It is about vampire hunters and the extinction of their race with more male babies than female babies being born and the vampire hunters turning into vampires if they don't find their soul mates in time. It's been a good read for a bit of supernatural in my daily, mundane life. It's not like the strong, sexy vampire hunters are running to baby showers with baby gift baskets in their warrior arms. They're off saving their mates and future children and saving the world.

I am forever looking for available books at my library or pricing Amazon books online to get the best price. I am considered a bookworm in my family. I think that is ok though. I do not mind. The Buzz Today - 5/7/09

The Buzz for Thursday, May 7, 2009:

• Today is the National Day of Prayer. There's a controversy about President Obama doing away with the tradition Former President George W. Bush made of the day with a service at the White House. About the only time you'll see me agreeing with President Obama thus far during his term will be on this issue. I don't believe the government and religion should mix. A private service for the President, should he feel the need or desire to do so, is appropriate in my opinion. Religion and faith are private, not federal.


• Maybe not the best place to put this following information about the National Day of Prayer, but there's supposedly racy photos of Carrie Prejean (Miss California of the Perez Hilton controvery the last couple of weeks) floating around. Do I care? Not really. I guess she may lose her crown over it and if those are the rules then I guess if you are going to be a part of pageants who have this rule, then you should abide by the rules. Personally, I don't really care. I don't watch pageants.


• Clayton Homes has introduced their iHouse (or iHome)...supposed to be 30% more efficient than the traditional houses built, reducing the carbon footprint.

Reduced to Begging

My 11yo is BEGGING to go see Twilight this weekend. We can't do it on opening day because that's daddy's birthday. She didn't even beg when High School Musical 3 came out but she's begging for teenage vampires.

We shall see. I wouldn't mind going to the movies (we've been once in the last few years) and I've read all the Twilight Saga (all four of them) myself.

Twilight Series - Read Them All! Now it's my daughter's turn.

I finished the fourth book in the Twilight series, Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4), in less than 24 hours. I sat up until 3:00 a.m. the other night reading this! It was, in my opinion, the best out of the four books in the series (though they were all good...this one was just the best, in my bookworm opinion).

My oldest daughter had parent-teacher conferences last night and her four teachers that I met with all raved about what a great kid she was, good grades, etc. They gushed so much it was almost too much, lol. She was really embarrassed but also loved hearing it all. Anyway, she REALLY wanted to start reading this Twilight book series and her school had the book fair going on that night for parent-teacher conferences so...yes, I bought Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1) for her from the book fair (would've been cheaper - like half the price - to buy it from Amazon but it's a tradition to buy the kids books at the book fair at Parent-Teacher conferences for good grades). I checked mine out of the library, lol. For her good grades (all A's), she deserved the book so we bought it (my other three kids also received books as gifts for their good reports as well).




Today my daughter had a 'reading marathon' at school so she started on her Twilight saga herself today...like so many other pre-teens/teens around the United States (and their parents too).

Of course, now she wants to see the movie when it comes out next weekend and get the poster because she thinks Edward the Vampire is "so cute" :)

Author Contacted Me!

Last week, I mentioned a book I was reading (Night Kill by Ann Littlewood) in one of my posts. The book had mentioned a dog breed that gives birth by c-section which sent me on a hunt online to find out which breed this was. I'd had no idea!

Anyway, the author left me a comment on my blog on that post. I was very surprised to say the least and, of course, had to brag to dh that his bookworm wife was just left a comment on her blog by an author. He was suitably impressed as he should be.

If you get a chance to pick up her book, you should check it out. It's a murder mystery that involves the zoo so if you like mysteries and big cats (as I do), you'll like this book. Here's Ms. Littlewood's web site and blog.

Read With Your iPod? Huh?

I have an iPod and never even thought of all the uses for it. I am an avid reader and read all the time. I just found out that you can listen to an audio book on your iPod and mp3 players! I didn't know this. Did you?

I came across this site today called audible.com that allows you to do this. What a good idea! It certainly would save space too from all the books I have piling up. My bookshelves are overflowing. I have books in boxes and piled on my bedroom floor. Good way to break up long trips too with a good book.

Twilight Saga - Finished with Book 2

I just finished reading the second book in the Twilight saga, New Moon (The Twilight Saga, Book 2). I know these are books written for teenagers but I like them. It appears that I am not the only adult that does from what I'm hearing. These books are a huge hit!

I already have the third book, Eclipse, on the hold list at the library so I can read the third one. There is a waiting list.

My stepdaughter texted me this morning asked for me to mail her Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1), but I don't own any of them. I just check them out from the library since we are poor this year:) I'd like to own the whole set though. I better start saving my pennies because this is a set I want to have on my overfilled bookcases.

Twilight (Book 1 in the Popular Series)

If you haven't heard about the new book that all the teens are into (and the movie that is being made from this book, set to come to theatres in November), I checked twilight (by Stephenie Meyer) out from the library after hearing what a great book it was. It is a "young adult" book but adults were finding it great so I thought I'd give it a try. I can see why this book is so popular with the teen set. I have the other two books in the series on hold at the library so I can finish the series.

Amazon Buys Shelfari

I am an avid reader...a downright nerd if you must know when it comes to reading (or so that is what my husband calls me). I just found out that one of my favorite online stores (Amazon) bought a book social networking site that I use, Shelfari. I wonder if this means changes are in store for Shelfari...perhaps more options in the social networking area. We shall see.

I've been keeping track of what I own and/or read at Shelfari. I'm not sure why I started doing it but I do. I think it's the nerd side of me. Here's my bookshelf:

Hey Harry Potter Fans! The Tales of Beedle the Bard

J. K. Rowling has done it again but this time, it is all for charity. She has written and illustrated a book of wizard fairy tales called The Tales of Beedle the Bard (standard edition) and signed all her royalties over to charity. If you remember references to fairy tales in the Harry Potter books and movies, these are them!

The publish date is December 4, 2008. In the United States, you will be able to find them through Scholastic and Amazon. In addition to the standard edition, there is also an impressive collector's edition.

With this last book, she leaves the world of wizardry behind her. It seems to be her last. We think.
